Our Holiday Good Reads

Holiday Gems are currently running a campaign sharing their top tips and book recommendations, so as its holiday season I thought that I would share my good reads with you.

I must admit I tend to like to read real life inspirational books, I've just finished reading Girl Boss by Sophia Amoruso which was really inspiring reading sharing her tale from rags to riches. I've heard a lot of good things about The Little Book of Hygge: The Danish Way to Live Well this defiantly has to be my next read. I tend to download books on my Kindle just for ease and simplicity, but the boys defiantly prefer reading books. When going away I like to read about my destination and prepare and plan my days from lazy days reading on the beach to exploring the sights, I defiantly recommend getting a big map of your destination so you can start plotting and planning your activities.

Holiday Gems Top Tips For Holiday Bookworms
1- If you don’t fancy forking out for a range of books to take away with you, check if your hotel has a lending library.
2 - Not always in the mood for a book? Books can be a bit of a chore for people who aren’t big readers, so don’t forget to take a selection of magazines too.
3 - Try to avoid buying your books at the airport if possible. Many airport stores hike up their prices, so plan in advance and get your reads prior to the departure lounge.
4 - Need some more book inspiration? Head over to the websites of The Guardian, Waterstone’s or Amazon, where you’ll find lots of book recommendations.

When planning a holiday be it planned months ahead or last minute it's always good to plan your reading materials especially for those long flights, so I'll defiantly be making sure that the boys choose a really good book to read and keep them occupied on their journey and knowing them they'll choose one of their favorite books from Diary of Wimpy Kid series.

Celebrating Summer With Sainsbury’s

Sainsbury’s has just released new research which shows the nation’s attitudes to al fresco dining and what makes a good summer guest.
Areleasedve seen this week we all know that the British summer weather can be so fleeting that often means that barbecues and picnic lunches are often planned at the last minute, and for those attending these al fresco event a Sainsbury’s study found that of 2,000 people have revealed the top attributes you need when attending an event this summer.
Not muscling in on the BBQ (45%)
Dressing well for the occasion (32%) and
keeping everyone’s drinks topped up (even though you’re not the host 35%)

Sainsbury’s has also revealed that, when it comes to table manners, we pride ourselves on being good guests (90%), 60% said they were more relaxed when dining al fresco, preferring a more informal atmosphere for outdoor dining, barbecues and picnics -which will be a relief to hosts across the country. But al fresco dining has its annoyances: the top 10 annoyances for al fresco summer dining included the unpredictable British Weather (78%), not having enough chairs/blankets (69%), not knowing how many people to cater for (63%) and animals, (such as dogs and even seagulls!) stealing the food (60%).

I love Sainsbury’s summer advert Table Squish, a Tetris-inspired 30-second advert which celebrates the joyous task of trying to squeeze all the dishes and guests around the table, and let's face it we have all been there.

Foraging For Summer Fruits with Robinsons Fruit Shoot

Fruit Shoot has partnered with foraging expert, Fergus Drennan, to create a range of hints and tips about foraging for fruit in your local area. We were given a really cool foraging kit to help us prepare for our adventure.

We were really excited to explore our local area and forage for fruit, the countryside defiantly offers more of a variety, but it's good to know that the inner-city also has a range of parks and public spaces where you can forage. We like foraging in an East Londons Cemetery Park which allows you to forage and explore responsibly.

During this hot summer days, what better way to stay refreshed than with the taste of delicious summer fruits, inspired by the real fruit taste of Fruit Shoot which contains real fruit foraging expert Fergus Drennan has some top tips on foraging safely to discover the taste of summer.

We had an amazing afternoon exploring and came across some familiar as well as unfamiliar berries, so we ensured we followed Fergus Drennan top tips and safety advice to guide us!

Fergus Forging Tips

1. Safety First - Before setting out on a foraging expedition remember to make sure you know the fruits that you will be looking for! NEVER pick and eat anything if you're not sure what it is as some plants are poisonous and can make you ill.

2. What To Wear - There is no dress code for foraging, if its cold wrap up in thermals or wear practical clothes like waterproofs or wellies. Don't let the rain and wind put you off, it's all part of the elemental experience. Forging can get messy, so don't wear your best shoes.

3. Don't Be Greedy -  Avoid collecting all the fruit that you can see as other creatures rely on them for food, blackbirds and pigeons love ripe berries, and young foxes will eat fruits like cherries and plums.

4.  Grow Your Own - Collect seeds and plant them, you could even create a dedicated wild food plant area in your garden, or pots indoors if you don't have any outside space.

5. Brush Up On Your Knowledge - It's also worth on checking which plants are rare, threatened or protected by the law (even if edible) in the wildlife countryside act. The woodland trust also has great tips for foraging.

Inspired by our afternoon foraging and looking for summer fruits, the boys thought of a cool new Fruit Shoot flavour called Bannaberry, a concoction of their favourite summer fruits with a banana flavour twist.

With the few Blackberries we did manage to collect, we decided to make some Fruit Shoot Ice pops, we thoroughly washed a sliced the Blackberries and added some Strawberries and Raspberry, we then filled up our ice pops with a favourite Fruit Shoot soft drink Summer Fruits and waited for the ice pops to set! They tasted absolutely delicious!

Robinsons Fruit Shoot Summer Fruits soft drinks contain only real juice, no added sugar only naturally occurring sugars and no artificial colours or flavourings. Check out
