MUM - Soho Theatre London

We were honoured to attend the press night of the new play MUM showing at the SoHo Theatre in London created by Olivier award-winning playwright Morgan Lloyd Malcolm directed by Abigail Graham and produced by Francesca Moody Productions. The cast is Sophie Melville, Denise Black and Cat Simmons.

About MUM

Motherhood. No one can prepare you for it. No matter how much you tell yourself you can do it - can you? Where’s the rush of love? When will you sleep again? What if the thing you fear most is also the thing you crave? All you wanted was one night of unbroken sleep, what have you done? Mum is a feverish journey through every parent’s worst nightmare.

Nina is a new mum and tonight is her first night off. Tonight is about pizza and wine and letting go. But Nina didn’t feel prepared for motherhood and isn’t sure she fits the job description. Nina feels like she’s losing her grip.

Our Thoughts - Mum is a thought-provoking hard-hitting and touching play, it has light-hearted funny moments but is an honest insight into motherhood, from the happy moments to the mental health struggles that many can face, it also explores the pressures that women can face during those early days, along with the deep emotions and anxieties of having a baby.

We were blown away by MUM from start to finish the story of Nina was gripping and will touch many, the talent of the actresses was outstanding they captivated the audience throughout, the standing ovation at the end spoke volumes about this outstanding performance.

MUM is a new play by Olivier award-winning playwright Morgan Lloyd Malcolm (Emilia, The Globe/ West End and Typical Girls, Sheffield Crucible), directed by Abigail Graham (soon to direct Aladdin at Lyric Hammersmith and The Merchant of Venice at The Globe) and produced by Francesca Moody Productions (original producer of Fleabag and the Olivier award-winning Baby Reindeer). The cast is Sophie Melville, Denise Black and Cat Simmons.

To celebrate the highly anticipated release of The Addams Family 2, Showcase Cinemas is launching a Halloween dress-up competition and giving away free family tickets to the best entries.

The spook-tacular ‘Scaredy Kids’ competition will run throughout October in the lead up to the hair-raising holiday and encourages parents to send in pictures of their little monsters dressed up in their best - and scariest - Halloween costumes.

The giveaway is being launched to coincide with the release of the new animated comedy The Addams Family 2, which is out now – just in time for the season’s spooky celebrations to begin.

The family-friendly film sees A-listers like Charlize Theron, Chloë Grace Moretz and Snoop Dogg, voice the iconic characters, and serves as the sequel to 2019’s The Addams Family.

The main characters Morticia and Gomez are distraught that their children are growing up, skipping family dinners, and consumed by "scream time". To reclaim their bond, they cram Wednesday, Pugsley, Uncle Fester, and the crew into their haunted camper and hit the road for one last miserable family vacation.

The eventful adventure across America takes them out of their element and into run-ins with their cousin Itt and other kooky characters – it’s a movie not to be missed this autumn.

Showcase Cinemas UK General Manager, Mark Barlow, said: “We’ve loved seeing our customers return to the big screen and watching guests enjoy the cinema experience with their families is amazing to see. We have so many exciting new releases coming out this autumn, so what better way to celebrate the family-friendly film, The Addams Family 2 than with a creative and creepy competition. We can’t wait to see the entries and look forward to welcoming the children and their family to a complimentary screening at their local Showcase Cinema.”

To enter the ‘Scaredy Kids’ competition and be in with a chance of winning one of 10 family tickets to see a film of your choice between 1-30 November, simply email a picture of your child dressed up in their favourite trick or treat outfit to

Culture meets food meets empowerment - London at its finest

Lady Lane Catering Co and The Canvas are proud to bring you Lady Lane Kitchen: a veritable pop-up feast during the month of October and beyond.
The cooperative brings together six women from all different backgrounds who tell a story of their love, their lives and their dreams through their food.

These women set up Lady Lane Catering Co in 2020 and they haven’t even let a pandemic stop them. They have persevered and have made it to this standout London pop up, even as other hospitality businesses are struggling.

Strong women coming together through a love of food, a fierce drive to succeed, and a vision to bring their family and heritage recipes to more people. These single mums and superwomen unite to collaborate in an explorative and culinary experience. Five of them will be sharing their skills and flavours at this pop-up, which kicks off on Wednesday 6 October.

They all have an important story to tell and do so with passion and flavour.

Single mum Leila has created a Caribbean menu and  is quick to point out the parallels between cultures; "Pilau rice is used in Caribbean cooking too - food shows us that we're not so different after all!" Leila runs Munchbreaks, an eclectic multicultural catering service from the heart of East London (a bit like the person behind it).

Woin, Ethiopic Kitchen is passionate about making traditional Ethiopic food 100% vegan and has created her business to create high quality, plant-based menus, full of rich flavours.

Aseel’s Kitchen was started 5 years ago by Sophia, a mother of four lovely children. Providing for her family and friends great quality and scrumptious food has always been a point of great joy and pride and she specialises in providing great flavoursome dishes from the southern Mediterranean, Levant and Arabian Peninsula kitchens.

Dadu’s Kitchen LDN opened in 2019 as a way of spreading love and joy through full bellies! Syeda, a mother of 6, and a grandmother has had over 40 years of experience cooking a wide range of Bangladeshi foods, using aromatic spices from the south of Asia. Her passion is to extend the joy and love for her food beyond her family and friends, with a vegan twist! Syeda has a bad leg and walks with a stick. But her daughter and friends are supporting her in the kitchen to make this happen for her, because, as she says: "this is the opportunity we've all been waiting for."

Amiira started making her own hot sauce Basbaas (which means chilli) after she lost her job in 2017. She noticed there was a gap in the market for Somali foods and condiments, and decided to use this downtime to launch her own business, as it had always been a dream of hers.

Lady Lane Kitchen is a cooperative of women in partnership with business and government:

● Tower Hamlets Council

● The Canvas - East London Profit for Purpose Cafe hosting the pop-up

● Heura Foods - proactive vegan meat brand who are donating products for the ladies' menus

● Lady Lane Market - London’s first women-led market, in east London

The pop-up restaurant will be happening Weds-Sat evenings over the month of October.
