With over 13 million households owning a pet in the UK, its no surprise we are a nation of pet lovers  This month, Netflix is encouraging you to celebrate the animals in your life – so check out our top picks of pet inspired TV shows and films the whole family can enjoy!

Check out some of the awesome titles you can stream on Netflix, which includes animal adventures for your younger ones, as well as titles suitable for the whole family.

Whether you have a pet or not, you can still enjoy animal themed fun with your kids. Netflix has teamed up with food artists FunkyLunch who have created two delicious and healthy recipes to spice up a sandwich and get your kids experimenting with lunch. Great news: all the ingredients are things you probably have in your cupboards already, so there is no need to spend money to get crafty.

How to make a Dog sandwich

You will need
2 x slices of wholemeal bread
1 x wholemeal pita or 1 x slice of wholemeal crust
Your favourite sandwich filling
Cream cheese (optional)
1. Make a sandwich using two slices of wholemeal bread and your favourite filling
2. Using a sharp knife, cut out a shape that resembles a pear or light bulb (wide and round at one end and narrower and rounded at the other)
3. Using either pitta bread or the slice of a crust, cut two teardrop shapes and then tuck these inside the sandwich so that the rounded section is at the top and the point is downwards
4. To make the nose, cut a slice of cucumber skin and then shape it into a round edged triangle and put it in place
5. For the eyes, take a slice of cheese and using a circular cutter (small cookie cutter), cut two oval eye shapes. Cut some more cucumber skin and using an apple corer or very small circle cutter, make two pupils from the cucumber skin and place on top of the cheese ovals
6. To finish, cut some small curves of cucumber skin using a round cutter and place above the eyes. To give the eyes and nose a more lifelike appearance, use a tiny dot of cream cheese to highlight these

How to make a Rabbit sandwich

You will need
3 x slices of 50/50 white bread
½ a slice of wholemeal bread
Sandwich filling
Slice of ham
Black grapes
Red pepper or cherry tomato
6x pieces of dry spaghetti

1. Make a sandwich using two slices of bread and your favourite filling
2. Cut the shape of the Rabbit head as shown in the picture (rounded at the top, with a wider section for the cheeks, narrowing to a thin neck)
3. To make the ears, cut the third slice of white bread into two long oval shapes pointed at one end, and top these with two ovals of ham slightly smaller than the ears, leaving an edge around the outside
4. Using the wholemeal bread cut two small oval shapes slightly pointed at one end and place these together on top of the bread so that the tips touch. Top this with a small circle of either red pepper or cherry tomato for the nose, cut using a small circle cutter
5. For the eyes, cut a slice of cucumber lengthways and remove the skin. Using the cucumber flesh, cut two long oval shapes and top these with half a black grape for the pupils
6. Finish your Rabbit with some teeth made from a rectangle of cucumber with a v-shape cut up the middle. Using the spaghetti poke it into the wholemeal bread nose and snap off to your desired length. Don’t forget to remove the spaghetti before eating the sandwich

Top tips
1. Instead of cucumber flesh for the eyes and teeth, you could use a slice of cheese cut into the same shapes?
2. Why not swap the dry spaghetti whiskers for some chives or thin strands of spring onion?

Huevos Rancheros - Recipe

4 corn tortillas or other flat breads
4 large free range eggs
Oil for frying

For the Tomato Sauce
tbsp olive oil
1 large onion, finely chopped
1-2 red chilies finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
2 x 400g tins plum tomatoes
1 tsp brown sugar
salt and black pepper

Chopped coriander to garnish

Heat the oil in a wide saucepan and soften the onion and the chilli over a low heat for about 10 minutes or until soft. Add the garlic and continue to cook for 4 minutes more.
Add the tomatoes, breaking them up a bit when stirring them in, then add the sugar.  Leave to cook for 15-20 minutes until the tomatoes have cooked down and the sauce has thickened.  You can add a bit of water if it gets too thick. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
Dry fry the tortillas in a frying pan, or you could brush them with oil and bake them in the oven until crispy.  Fry the eggs in the frying pan.
To assemble the breakfast, top each tortilla with a couple of spoonfuls of the tomato sauce and then a fried egg (or any other toppings you would like). Garnish with coriander.

*Why not make your own Wholesome Brown Pizza Dough?
Makes one pizza

2.5 cups of a combination of whole wheat flour, spelt flour and rye flour (whichever you can get hold of)
2 ¼ teaspoon active dry yeast (1 sachet)
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup warm water
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon sugar

Preheat oven to 200 C.
In a glass stir together the yeast, water and sugar.
In a large bowl mix together your flour combination. Pour over the yeast mixture and olive oil and mix together vigorously until it all comes together as a dough.
Turn onto a floured surface and knead for 5 – 10 minutes until smooth and bouncy. Add a splash of water if it looks dry, or a sprinkle of flour if it is too sticky to knead.
Place in a greased bowl and cover lightly with greased cling film for 1 hour. (You can also make the dough the night before and pop in the fridge. Just leave it to come to room temperature before cooking.)
Lightly flour a pizza stone or fill with a square of baking parchment.
Flour a surface and rolling pin. Push your dough into a rough circle with your fingers and begin rolling out to a desired thickness (around 1cm) with the rolling pin. Roll from the centre to the edge of the dough, rotating it clockwise slightly after each roll to achieve an even circle.
Use the rolling pin to pick up the dough and move onto your pizza stone. Add your toppings as above and bake until the dough is crisp and firm in the centre.

Our Kitchen Story - Building Bonds

“This post is an entry for the “My Kitchen Story” Linky Challenge, sponsored by Fairy Platinum"

Our kitchen is defiantly the heart of our home, Although it is quite a small kitchen, I would say i spend most of my time in this part of our home, it's where so many family meals are cooked daily, I tend to be in the kitchen quite alot, and the boys will often catch up with me sharing their day whilst I carry out the daily chores.

my youngest son is known as "chef" as he will often come and take over the cooking and start stirring whatever I'm cooking on the stove, he also loves to blend and add ingredients, I have to keep an eye on him, as in the past he has often tried to add unwanted food items to my dishes...eeek.

The great thing about our kitchen is that is a space that brings us together and my boys love to help out with the chores whilst chatting with me. We also spend lots of our bonding time in our kitchen baking and getting creative.

We will often make yummy cookies, smoothies and cakes. It's a great bonding time, and it gives the boys the chance to take over the kitchen and get really creative and hands on, although I'm often left with a very messy kitchen which needs lots of tiding up as well as a pile if washing up, but its always worth the fun and yummy baked goods.

Fairy Platinum, which has been awarded best in test 5 years running as It tackles grease leaving you with unbeatably clean dishes first time.

My Sunday Photo Fathers Day

Mario Kart Challenge

To celebrate the release of Mario Kart 8, We were set a Challenge to create and design our own Mario Kart, Mario Kart Racing Track and weapons that we would like to use against are racing opponents.

We were very excited and couldn't wait to get started.....
using some cardboard boxes we had laying around the house and some coloured paints and pens, The boys wasted no time in getting creative and set about creating a their colourful rainbow Kart's, We had so much messy and creative fun.

My son even went and got his Mario soft toy characters to let them take the driving seat of the new Kart creations, They were super excited and very pleased with their kart's.

The boy's had a great time creating and designing their Mario Rainbow Karts.

We then created our very own racing track using some felt tip pens, my boys opted for a white road with green/blue and red markings.

And or course no Mario kart and racing track would be complete without a weapon to defeat and slow down your opponents, This is the fast blade that will slice and dice the opponents wheels and temporarily slow them down, giving you the chance to whizz by and take the lead....Pretty cool.

We had so much fun getting creative and designing our very own Mario experience at home...Great fun.
