Coping with Colic

When my first son was born he suffered from terrible colic...for around three months...he would cry for what felt like hours and he was very difficult to console...Nights of holding him..bouncing him in his baby rocking chair..pushing him up and down in his pram until the early hours of the morning...My son Zak suffered so much... I have vivid memories of taking turns with my husband at four o'clock one morning pushing the pram over the doorway to bump him up and down..he would often fall asleep in his rocking chair or pram if we daren't try to move he would wake up and would have to start many nights we left him to sleep in his rocking chair or pram..just so we could get some rest.. as we were exhausted...and as I was expressing milk I would also get up in the night to I was physically and emotionally exhausted.

We tried everything..from gripe water to rubbing his back...rocking defiantly helped as did use fast flow teat...we muddled through until eventually, he grew out of his colic..but it was an extremely stressful and difficult time.

What is colic
colic is not completely understood as normally babies still thrive well and are healthy and feed normally,
there is no evidence that a colicky baby will suffer from any long term affects, Colic can start from birth and last up to three months or in some cases six months.

Red flushed faced baby
Baby cry's and is difficult to comfort
Normally occurs a similar time each night
Baby will draw their knees up to their tummy and clench fists or arch back
This can be very distressing and difficult for the parent

Tried and tested tips

Always seek medical advice - contact your GP or Midwife to rule out any other conditions that may be causing the crying.
Feeding - try fast flow teats which can help prevent to much air being swallowed (slow flow teats can cause to much air to be swallowed during feeding), Also sit your baby upright during feeding...always ensure you burp your baby.
Baby massage -  find your nearest class and attend - there are so many massage techniques that can help..ask your midwife or Surestart centre for local classes near you.
Try anti-colic bottles as they may help as they can help by reducing colic as much as 80%
Movement - pushing around in a pram, bouncing, rocking can provide a great deal of comfort to your baby.

White noise - background sounds..vacuum cleaner..washing machine there are also CD's that can be purchased with white noise sounds.

Colic can be very stressful on the parent so share the stress with your husband/partner or friend or contact cry-sis for advice and support.

Always rest when your baby is at asleep.

Signs...I'm Getting Older

My Son Showcasing My lovely Pink Trolley

Struggling with bags of shopping almost decapitating my fingers there was no way in my younger years of youth...would I be seen with a shopping trolley of any kind...I'd rather struggle along with bags of shopping..

Well not anymore...Now in my mid thirties, I see life much more differently ....A little older but a whole lot wiser .....No way I'm going to put my back out for a few groceries . If my hubby is at work and cannot drive me.. I will take my trolley on a shop....and I don't care...if I look old.... My attitude has changed..

Then I started thinking I know I'm getting older...a few signs have began to linger..
I'm not ashamed...but rather proud...I have an abundance of confident compared to when I was in my thought I would share my signs...I'm sure some of you will recognise some of them..:)

Signs You Can Embrace...Your Getting Old.

You dye you hair to hide the grey's

You need a shopping trolley when shopping

You are totally exhausted after a day out with the kids...desperate for some peace and a sleep...whilst your kids are full if energy

You can't catch that bus...without being out of breath

We try to maintain a healthy active lifestyle...but ate stumped by that chocolate cake

You want to be comfortable in your clothing/footwear

You talk and strike up conversation with total strangers about stupid things...especially whilst out shopping!!!

You are confident to complain and moan when things aren't what they should are more confident to stand you ground.

You can take life in your stride

You give advice to others...after all you have been there done it

You think your invincible

A common phase...It wasn't like that in my days...when I was younger!!!

You fall asleep in front if the TV

Forgetfulness...Sorry what was your name again

You oooh and ahhh when bending up and down

If any of these ring a bell...welcome to getting older..But I'm sure a great deal wiser. :)

Thai Sweet Chili joins five taste-bud popping flavours already available in store, including original, Barbeque, Salt & Vinegar, Sour Cream & Onion and Salt & Pepper.

We all loved the popchips they were very tasty and didn't last very long in our house...every bite filled with a  a mild Chlli flavour with a hint of sweetness...I'm always on the look out for an heather snack alternative..and really loved these.

PKTMNY - Financial Life In My Family

When I first heard about PKTMNY, I was curious and interested in the concept ...the fact my child could have their own personal pocket money account with access to their own card and to be responsible to manage their money was a bonus, I love the idea of my children having their own pocket money account .. as I like to encourage my children to be Independent.. but within limits that I can set..that's why PKTMNY is perfect choice.
I wanted to encourage saving and spending wisely for my they recently had developed an attitude to spend any money they had, And I wanted to teach my children to take responsibility for their money... to enable them to save responsibly, and also to save for a pacific item...rather then feel the need to spend immediately..PKTMNY has had a very positive impact on my children's saving and spending desires...both of my boys have enjoyed making their wish lists and the fact that they can view their account and see how much money they have saved and how far they have to reach desired goal has been extremely positive. PKTMNY has defiantly changed how I and my children deal with pocket money...I can add chores which is great and my boys seem very focused and positive about having their own personal PKTMNY account. My eldest son will often look at his account to view his PKTMNY And check his wish-list goals. I can already see the benefits of having the PKTMNY accounts as my children are more focused on there pocket money and we are having lots of positive discussions on saving and spending this is fantastic.
I want my children to learn and take responsibility of their pocket money and develop good habits when it comes to money...I can honestly say PKTMNY has given us the tools we needed to make this happen.

Deep Heat Rub & Deep Freeze Gel - Review

Deep Heat Rub -  Provides fast relief from muscular aches and pains; you can use Deep Heat before exercising as part of your warm up regime, or 72 hours after an injury occurs to ease muscular aches. The rub uses heat therapy in a portable and easy to use format, and also contains eucalyptus oil and turpentine oil which help dilate local blood vessels, taking more heat, oxygen and nutrients to the muscles. Deep Heat rub comes in 35g, 67g and 100g sizes with RRPs of £2.34, £3.54 and £4.69 respectively.

Deep Heat has always been used in our family for aches and pains one of an old trusted family favourite that I always have at we are a family who like to exercise and keep fit so we love this product.
Deep Freeze Gel -  Is a fast-acting pain relieving gel that has a cooling action and analgesic properties. Use Deep Freeze Gel straight after injury as an ideal alternative to ice in the RICE technique; research shows that Deep Freeze Gel is better tolerated than ice for maintaining prolonged low skin temperature. Deep Freeze gel can also be used at various stages during the recovery of an injured muscle or joint.
Deep Freeze Gel is available in 35g or 100g sizes and has an RRP of £2.25 and £4.36 respectively.

This is fantastic product...My husband had been suffering with a stiff shoulder..after a injury in the gym...he has been using the Deep Freeze Gel and say's its soothing and is a great alternative to an ice pack.

Deep Relief, a topical pain relief product containing 2 active ingredients: ibuprofen and levomenthol. Deep Relief acts on both inflammation and interrupting pain signals; levomenthol stimulates the nerves that perceive cold whilst suppressing the nerves that perceive pain, so less or no pain is felt.
The products are absorbed through the skin to help give a local inflammatory effect

Deep Heat/Relief and Deep Freeze Gel are available in your local supermarkets of chemist.

Not only is FUN so much Fun....each time you buy some FUN 10p of each sale will go to the....FunD...

The Fun - 10p from each sale of FUN goes to help children affected by the Fukushima disaster.

We had so much fun inventing and using our new patented soft bath product; modelling it into shapes, animals, voodoo dolls of the boss, etc, then seeing how many uses we could find for it, as a bubble bath, washing our hair, our clothes, our muddy bikes, etc.,etc,etc.   So when it came to thinking of a name for this new invention, we decided that it had to simply be called Fun.

We try to make sure we have a great deal of fun working here at Lush and it is something that visitors often comment on.   When you are having fun and making a product called Fun, it seems only right to try to spread the fun to places where there might not be quite so much of it.

With this in mind, we have decided that for the first year of sales of Fun, 10p  from the sale of each bar will go into a FunD, to be given out in grants to projects providing fun and recreational activities for children living in challenging environments.

Through our contacts in Japan and the previous work we did with NGOs in the areas affected by the 2011 earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster,
we are aware that the situation for children in the affected areas is still very far from having returned to the normal fun of childhood. The children of the Fukushima area in particular are severely affected – where very real concerns over radiation levels mean that playing outside is too dangerous.  Despite decontamination efforts, many school playgrounds remain off limits and outdoor play in streets and parks is not possible - meaning that children are playing alone in their houses on computers more and more whilst exercise, free running and mixing with peer groups is severely reduced.

We would like to target the FunD at this group; identifying charities, community groups and parent initiatives providing fun filled, group activities for children in the affected areas.

We will work with NGOs and groups in the area to seek out suitable projects to fund.  We favour small, grassroots community projects, initiated by locals, who are best placed to know the needs of their children and are able to organise locally.  We aim to provide money to enable them to lay on regular events where children can come together and have fun and enjoyment with their own age and peer groups.

Dentyl - Review

As a family who like to look after our teeth and protect teeth from tooth decay...I was more then delighted to review Dentyl mouthwash as it.....Protects your Teeth from dental decay and enamel erosion and is alcohol free..

Dentyl mouthwash Strengthens and protects your teeth from damaging foods and drinks with
New alcohol free Dentyl Active Enamel Restore.....
It has an fresh mint flavour, and helped freshen my breath this alcohol free mouthwash contains double the fluoride level of other leading mouthwash brands. As a result, this means that Dentyl Active Enamel Restore can:

·         Help to strengthen tooth enamel by replacing lost minerals.
·         Help protect the enamel against acid erosion.
·         Help the enamel become more resistant to acid attack.

Enamel erosion is a significant yet preventable problem in the UK. Today, tooth decay is the third most common reason that children are admitted to hospital and this has risen by 13% over the past five years. More than half (55%) of adults in the UK also have one or more decayed teeth. Enamel erosion is on the increase, and this is partly due to modern day eating and drinking habits. Acid, which is primarily found in soft drinks, sports drinks, juices, wine and acidic foods can cause a chemical loss of minerals to the tooth enamel causing it to erode.
Research has shown that carbonated drinks can double or triple the incidence of tooth decay.

Fluoride therefore has an important role to play to help prevent enamel erosion as it hardens the outer layer of teeth, making it more difficult for bacteria to penetrate the enamel. The need for a product containing a good level of fluoride to help to protect teeth has much been needed and so Dentyl Active Enamel Restore was created.

What’s more, thanks to the clever Dentyl Active experts, Dentyl Active Enamel Restore’s unique alcohol free formula means that children can use it to help protect their teeth from enamel decay from as young as 7 years of age, unlike alcohol containing mouthwashes, which cannot be used until the age of 12. Great news for kids especially as the number of children with decay increases by 16% from the age of 8 to 12 years of age.

Working Action:
Dentyl Active Enamel Restore Icy Fresh Mint also has the ability to lift and absorb 99.9% of oral bacteria plus debris, such as food particles, bacteria and plaque from the mouth. Like the rest of the Dentyl Active range, it is an innovative mouthwash formula with a distinctive working action. The advanced alcohol free formula consists of two stages, a water-based phase incorporating a special antibacterial agent (Cetylpyridinium Chloride - CPC), and an oil-based solution with natural essential oils, that has to be shaken well before use.

This shaking action combines the two mouthwash phases and creates a dynamic solution which is much more powerful than the two individual parts. The bacteria and debris adhere to the mouthwash solution and when it is rinsed out you can see the bacteria, food debris and other deposits on the teeth removed and highlighted as small, brightly coloured masses in the sink, proving that Dentyl Active really works.  And thanks to the special antibacterial ingredient (CPC) in Dentyl Active, it also helps stop bacteria from working

absolutely love this mouthwash the fact that its alcohol free and is suitable for all the family...and you can see that is has actually worked...this will be on my shopping list from now.

Family Life

No one said is was going to be easy...but like most women I always craved for a family of my very own...and yes thank God...I have been blessed to have one...the laughs... giggles... tears... and tantrums and that just me...

As rewarding family life is.... its also extremely demanding...but would I change if for the world...
No Way....Like most mothers...we often look at our own childhoods and always want a little better for our own family...for me it's always been about good bonds and communication..I love you... is a word used on a regular basis in my house amongst  us all.

Often with another necessary word.....No...of course followed by reasoning ...when the kids are attempting to push boundaries...

So here are my Top Tips for an Almost Peaceful and Contended  Family Life

3 - Share responsibilities of the home - Encourage your children understand the importance to helping and contributing to the home - OK... I don't mean big daily cores but responsibility for there actions...making bed...tidying room and generally helping out.

4 - Enjoy each others company - ignore the negative things and praise the positive- that's for all....husband/wife including.

5 -Meal Times -as often as possible have a family meal together.

6 - Family time - watch a movie... go out in and share an activity together and give opportunities for you children to choose activity.

7 - Couple nights... its important to keep you relationship with your spouse to one time together to build bonds..share experiences and come together.Even if its a cosy night on the sofa together watching a film.

8 - Never argue with your spouse in front of the kids...if your children do see you bickering... its important that you explain to your children that you were having a disagreement and everything is sorted - children thrive on stability so keep differences at bay..... there's always a time and a place.

9 - Encourage siblings to share and respect each other it's important to maintain positive bonds.

10 - Compromise - family life changes all the time...its important to be flexible to meet each others changing needs.

My boys are only a few weeks into the trail and are absolutely loving it...they are having fun and learning at the same time which is fab...They are Constantly asking to go on the computer and complete their levels...
I have had to assist them at times when they have got stuck, which I'm more then happy to do.

Making Memories

Impromptu Visit to Local Coffee Shop
It's funny as a mother.... And like most mothers.... I think it's extremely important to build and make memories for my doesn't have to be extravagant....although very nice...but it's the small things to me that matter..

Those everyday occurrences or one off out of the ordinary things like going to the park.... hugs and cuddles...snuggling up watching a film... and off the cuff..unplanned visits to a local restaurant for lunch.

As a family.... who often so caught up in the goings on of the Day...Work...School....Clubs...Home Life there's can be very little time...that's why as a family we think its important to build bonds and create FAMILY TIME... as much as we can...after is so short and I can already see my babies growing and changing...I hope and pray they will look back on our memories as a strong foundation of family life and emotional support for their future.

As a child growing up some of my fondest memories were the little things... going to the seaside... playing games with my mum and siblings....and it's funny how a smell or a feeling can take you right back to those fondest of memories of childhood.

I often capture our moments and memories in a picture... so we can look back and share our memories in the future and years to come. Its so nice when we all can chat about special moments and remember the past.

Brotherly Love

Memories are so important they remind us fondest moments in our life... x
