Corgi Cake

Her Majesty the Queen corgi cake

As you may already know Her Majesty the Queen turned 90 this last week so Stork teamed up with Great British Bake Off’s Edd Kimber (The Boy Whos Bakes) to create this cool Corgi cake ensuring the cake has all the ingredients the queen would love from whipped cream, apple compote.

Candy the Corgi, in honour of one of the Queen’s much-loved pets and has many of the features that make caterpillar cakes special, from the cute feet to the face. So with the help of stork, I attempted to re-create the  super cute looking Corgi Cake, I love a challenge especially when it comes to food so I couldn't wait to put my baking skills to the test.

You will need
25g Stork, melted
3 large eggs
125g caster sugar
125g plain flour
1 tbsp lukewarm water
200g double cream
3 tbsp honey
1 tsp vanilla bean paste
125g apple compote/sauce
125g Stork
250g icing sugar
75g white chocolate melted and cooled
brown food colouring
Corgi Decoration
70g milk chocolate candy melts
35g white chocolate candy melts
25g red candy melts
50g brown sugar paste

Lightly grease a 33x23cm swiss roll tin and line the base with parchment paper and grease. Preheat the oven to 180C. In the large bowl add the eggs and sugar then using an electric mixer whisk together for about 10 minutes. Then slowly sieve over the flour and fold in. Take a large spoonful of the batter and add to a small bowl along with the Stork and the water and mix together until fully mixed. Pour this back into the batter and carefully fold together. Pour the batter into the prepared tin and gently level out. Bake in the preheated oven for 14-16 minutes or until lightly browned and coming away from the sides of the pan.

Whilst the cake is baking, place a slightly damp tea towel onto the work surface and top with a piece of parchment paper. Sprinkle the paper with a thin layer of caster sugar. When the cake is cooked take it out of the oven and turn out onto the parchment paper. Use a serrated knife to cut the edges from the cake. Roll the cake into a tight roll, Set aside to cool for 20 minutes.

Cake filling - add the cream, honey and vanilla into a bowl and whisk together until it had soft peaks. Then unroll the cake and spread the cream and top with the apple compote. then carefully roll the cake back up and put on a serving plate.

Frosting - beat the Stork and icing sugar together until light and fluffy. Add in the chocolate and a small amount of brown food colouring, beating until evenly combined and a light caramel brown colour. Spread the frosting over the entire cake.

To make the corgi face - you need to first draw the outline, melt about 30g of the milk chocolate candy melts according to the manufacturer’s instructions and place into a piping bag fitted with a small plain round piping tip. Place the template on a piece of acetate and draw out the lines using the chocolate. For the majority of the face use 40g milk chocolate, 15g white and 5g red, piping into the majority of the face, spreading so it meets the chocolate outlines and there are no gaps. Repeat with the red and white candy melts to fill in the details. Place the face into the fridge for 30 minutes to set then carefully peel from the acetate and press onto the end of the corgi.

For the feet and tail roll the sugar paste into small cylinders and for the feet, next slightly flatten the feet using a knife to mark four lines for the paws. For the tail roll into a pear shape and insert a toothpick into the thin end and use this to anchor into the top of the cake.

As you can see my version slightly differs from the original as I used sugar paste icing for the corgi face and my icing is a darker brown but tasted delicious.

We go through toothbrushes quite a lot in this house, so I'm always buying new replacements. So I couldn't have been happier to try the 13 Clean Toothbrush kit, unlike any toothbrush I have seen these cool toothbrush is totally unique as it comes complete with 13 interchangeable toothbrush heads.

13 Clean is a great way to keep track of your toothbrushes age as it reminds you that it’s time to replace old toothbrushes. Inside the kit, you get a toothbrush handle and one starter head and 12 replaceable heads that are each clearly marked with a month of the year so that you can always keep your toothbrush fresh and germ-free by not allowing any unwanted germs of bacteria to build up on the toothbrush.

We love that the 13 clean comes in its very own cool looking stand which also is storage for the toothbrush heads. I really love the concept of this toothbrush and although the dental association recommends you change your toothbrush every three months, I really like the idea of having a monthly toothbrush change. For more information check out ToiletTree 13Clean.

Cheerios Oat Crisp

Cheerios Oat Crisp

As a family, we are regular Cheerios, so it was great to learn that there are new cheerios Oat Crisp.
Cheerios Oat Crisp are made with crunchy flakes of oat mixed with light crispy cheerios, Cheerios Oat Crisp are high in fibre and low in saturated fat and contain a natural source of beta-glucan which can help lower cholesterol.

Cheerios Oat Crisp cinnamon

According to the Heart Uk over half of all adults in the UK have raised cholesterol which is a risk factor in the development of coronary heart disease. Oats are rich in beta-glucan which binds with cholesterol in the digestive tract and stops it being absorbed into the body. So just one bowl of Cheerio Oat Crisp provides 1/3 of your recommended intake of beta-glucan and the experts recommend a daily intake of 3g oat beta-glucan to obtain the beneficial cholesterol-lowering effect.

Cheerios Oat Crisp also comes in a delicious cinnamon flavour, We loved every bite they both taste delicious it's great to know that we are also eating a nutritious breakfast that will also give us health benefits.

HP Instant Ink To Your Door

Don't you hate it when you run out of ink, and it always happens when you need it the most when you just about to print off that all important document, it at that point you realise that your document is coming out patchy and certainly not legible.

After watching this I most defiantly need a new printer and will certainly be investing in an HP printer as not only are the printers super smart but HP also has a convenient ink replacement service where you can choose a monthly plan based on the number of pages you normally print, Plus you get the HP ink delivered right to your door, so no more shopping trips to buy ink, This most defiantly sounds like something I could do with.

The Jungle Book: 2016 Movie Review

Disney The Jungle Book

We were delighted to be invited to London's Empire Leicester Square to the exclusive screening of The Jungle Book. The Jungle Book 2016 is based on Rudyard Kipling's classic story which inspired the 1967 Disney movie. This cool remake has everything you could possibly want from stunning 3D graphics to edge of your seat viewing.
The story follows Mowgli (Neel Sethi) who was raised by a pack of wolves, as Mowgli is getting older he soon finds his life in danger when fearsome tiger Shere Khan (Idris Elba) vows to end the man cubs existence as he feels he is becoming a threat. Mowgli decides it's best for him to leave the jungle with the help of  his trusty Panther friend Bagheera (Ben Kingsley).

But all is not what it seems as Mowgli sets off he finds himself in danger from Shere Khan, Bagheera manages to step in and hold back the fierce tiger, giving Mowgli time to escape. As Mowgli continues his journey he meets Kaa (Scarlett Johansson)  the hypnotic python who sets her sights on Mowgli, it's at this point we are introduced to Baloo (Bill Murray) the fun loving bear who saves the day. Baloo conveniences Mowgli stay and help him gather honey, so they set off on a fun adventure. It's not long before Mowgli ends up in the hands of King Louie (Christopher Walken) the huge orangutan, who offers to protect Mowgli if he shares the  secret of the fire flower (fire).
But the threat on Mowgli life continues and Mowgli soon finds himself having to stand up to the fierce tiger Shere Khan for once and for all.

Disney The Jungle Book Movie Review 2016

A fantastic gripping movie full of suspense and action, we felt like the animals were literally jumping out from the screen that's how realistic and stunning the 3D graphics were, we loved that there was a hint of the old Disney movie with the song "I wanna be like you" which was a fantastic reminder of the classic. A Perilous action adventure will leave you wanting to watch this movie again. Jungle Book is rated PG due to mild perilous scenes and fierce animals. A must watch. Thank you Disney UK for the invite we had the most amazing day.

WonderCrump - Roald Dahl Interactive Exhibition

WonderCrump - Roald Dahl Interactive Exhibition

We have read a few or Roald Dahl books and of course, we have enjoyed all the movies, So it was a pleasure to attend Wondercrump, Wondercrump is an amazing interactive exhibition currently at the SouthBank Centre in London.

As we were running slightly late that day we had just missed our guide and group, luckily for us we were only a few minutes late, so be warned as this exhibition is ever so popular missing your time slot means you could miss out. But as I said lucky for us we were only a couple of minutes late so we were able to join our group in the first small room.

WonderCrump southbank centre

Over the next 55 minutes, we were transformed into the world of  Roald Dahl, we were given an insight to Roald Dhal and his early life through to adulthood, throughout the guided exhibition the children were encouraged to join in, answer questions and have lots of fun. the best thing about this experience that each time we were led through various rooms that mirrored what we were about to be introduced to, from cool facts and inspirational stories about Roald Dhal along with some very cool items from the Roald Dhal museum.

Exploring the various rooms was awesome it was a great experience, to give you an insight without giving too much away, we explored Roald Dahl school years in the school classroom where we learned about Roald Dahls school life to a cosy library where we learned abut matilda and Roald Dahls inspirations for the story, to a creepy forest with a giant peach.

This interactive experience was absolutely amazing, the kids loved the final room which was a cool lab where the kids could play with the whoopie cushion wall and make some fun sentences with the large magnetic words. Unfortunately, you cannot film or take any pictures during the exhibition which is totally understandable as it would defiantly spoil it for others although I would have loved a picture with that giant peach just for memory sakes. Overall we all loved the interactive exhibition, we learned a lot and yet had so much fun, a must see for all Roald Dahl fans.

The Wondercrump exhibition is recommended for children aged 7 – 12 accompanied by an adult. The exhibition runs from until the 3rd of July, cheek out www.southbankcentre.co.uk/wondercrump for more information on time and prices
