Easter With The Kids

Easter in Edinburgh with the Kids

Edinburgh is a magical place to explore with children and Easter makes it even more special, with lots going on to ensure you get the most from your stay here. A tradition that's been kept alive for years is egg rolling. Join others as they roll eggs down Arthur's Seat to see who's will go the furthest without cracking - or perhaps enjoy an Easter Egg hunt, gathering as many Easter Eggs as you can? Some of the best things to do in Edinburgh at Easter include:

Easter Egg Trail

Take part in one of the Cadbury's Easter Egg Trails at one of the National Trust Scotland properties. Georgian House in New Town, Gladstone's Land in the heart of the Royal Mile, Preston Mill and Phantassie Doocot in East Linton, Newhailes near Musselburgh and House of the Binns near Linlithgow are all hosting Easter Egg Trails. Children can follow the trail, solving clues along the way to help them win a special chocolate surprise. From beautiful Georgian houses to castles and stunning country properties, each egg hunt is as different as the property at which it's held. A great day out that children, and chocoholics, of all ages will enjoy.

Brick Wonders

This new attraction has been created solely from Lego and is available to view at the beginning of the Easter school holidays, on the 5th, 6th and 7th of April, between 10am and 4pm at Riddler's Court, a beautiful old merchant's house just off the Royal Mile. Brick Wonders is a must see for Lego fans, featuring ancient, natural and modern marvels. The exhibit includes an airport, a replica of a pyramid and even the Aurora Australis, which is sure to delight the stargazers among us.

Peppa Pig's Big Splash

Showing at the King's Theatre in Edinburgh on the 12th and 13th of April, Peppa Pig's brand new show is sure to be a hit with Peppa fans young and old. There'll be singing, dancing, games and jumping in muddy puddles as you join Peppa on this magical adventure. You'll see Peppa and friends raise money to fix the leaking nursery roof, setting up a fete and holding a puddle jumping competition. Lots of fun for little ones.

Mammoths of the Ice Age

This great interactive exhibition comes to Edinburgh all the way from The Field Museum of Chicago and is showing in the National Museum until the 20th of April. Here you'll be transported back in time thousands of years as you discover animals of the ice age in the UK's first exhibition of its kind. Joust with mammoth tusks, touch the replica teeth of a mastodon, find out what mammoth fur feels like and meet Lyuba, an exact replica of a 42,000 year old baby woolly mammoth. You'll discover lots of interesting facts about the gigantic furry ancestors of our modern day elephants through hands on play and discovery. A great family friendly exhibition for children of all ages.

Edinburgh is a wonderful city to visit with children, add in some great Easter activities and you'll have them begging to return year after year for a fun packed family holiday.
